Pietermaritzburg’s First Coffee Roastery
Cultivating a coffee culture in Pietermaritzburg.
The coffee journey starts with the humble bean, but it’s the roasting that unlocks the flavours and aromas of the world’s best-loved beverage. Roasting is both an art and a science that demands passion and skill in equal measure, not to mention an investment in a quality roaster. These boxes, we believe, are all ticked at West Coast Coffee and we take great pride in being Pietermaritzburg’s first coffee roastery.
Much as our pioneering venture may represent a head start in this beautiful industry in KZN, we are reminded daily of a fundamental truth – that we’re on an adventure of learning and discovery.
For this reason, we love sharing our knowledge and experience as the coffee culture gradually takes hold in our city and its surrounds. We’re both humbled and proud of our role in this burgeoning industry. In fact, the only thing we don’t do is grow our own beans (not yet anyway), but these we source from our trusted suppliers who in turn support ethical growing practices throughout Africa.
We use Arabica beans and treat these with respect and love by roasting these to perfection to release their unique flavours and aromas. Each roast is treated differently, depending on its unique attributes and qualities; it’s a 100%
hand-roasted process, and most definitely not shaped by a computer-generated profiling exercise.
We also custom roast our beans, and derive real joy by teasing out the unique aromas and flavours with different techniques and tweaking the time spent in the roaster, we’re driven to do our best and are committed to go the extra mile for our customers, no matter how little or much they consume.
Our services include free delivery in Pietermaritzburg, complemented by our popular on-line sales through our website.
But, what we love most, is meeting fellow travelers on their own journey of discovery. Our consultations are free and what better way to build relationships than over a cup of the beautiful brew!
So, please let us know what you think, we’d love to hear from you!
